Autumn and winter are drawing close,
So wrap up tight and warm as toast..
And snuggle up indoors, that's where
you can hug a polar-bear....

Grant Bradley Gallery

A spontaneous exhibition has sprung up in The Grant Bradley Gallery (South Bristol)! Me plus Lauren Tobia had the weekend to prepare the exhibition after the previous illustrator had to pull out, and it's all come together rather nicely! Exhibition on for the whole month of November.
So get down to the gallery and check out the original artwork, limited edition prints, books and cards! Including some hot-off-the-drawingboard sketches of my musical bears and penguins, which may or may not have been inspired by my magical musical house..banjo's, guitars and ukelele's..

My adventures in Hong Kong are but a dream now! Of tall tall buildings, delicious food and friendly people. Tropical paradise islands, sea as warm as a bath, giant spiders... beautiful butterflies and birds! Hot hot hoooot sunshine, and so many markets full of wonderful things from antique lanterns to flowers, dried seafood, clothes and shoes and goldfish.
Now I'm home in Bristol in my lovely new peaceful house, with some lovely new people. Full of music and laughter, trips to the seaside, playing the piano and ukelele, and lots of fun evenings cooking dinners together!

Swan Artworks - Open!
I am delighted to be exhibiting and selling artwork, books, prints and cards, along with the marvelous Penny Ives, as the 'opening featured artists' of Swan Artworks - Bespoke Picture Framers' in Midsomer Norton.

The shop, owned and run by the lovely Tony and Carrie Osborne, even got a nice feature in The Journal:
I think the exhibition looks splendid!Well done Carrie and Tony, opening a shop is no mean feat! Sorry I couldn't make the opening day, just snowed under with all sorts of things!

And then there were 2...
And just 1 book left to draw, and 10 days till I go to Hong Kong! And through a nice trail/chain of events, and a twist in the tale of my studio/house hunt, I have found a house to move to (just in the nick of time!) It is a beautiful house full of creative musical people, with an abundance of banjo's, ukelele's and guitars! I can't wait to move and get to know my new housemates, and meet a whole new circle of friends.

I love my sunflower, a ray of sunshine even on a grey rainy day!

Been rather busy lately! But my latest news is that I am delighted to be asked to exhibit work alongside Penny Ives as the opening featured artists at 'Swan Artworks - Bespoke Picture Framers' in Midsomer Norton. A fab new shop to be opened on 29th august by the lovely Carrie and Tony. I enjoyed my afternoon out to visit their shop, meet them properly and had a good chat about music! Thanks for the tea guys :)

I'm also in the midst of drawing roughs for 3 fun short rhyming stories, all due before...

... I leave for Hong Kong on 7th September! Off to stay with my cousin for 2 weeks, and meet a couple of friends in the city. So exciting!

But before I go, I am moving house again! I can't wait, but I still don't know where I am moving to! Ideally I want to move to a smaller cheaper house so I can afford a studio(!) But the studio is 'up in the air' and I'm waiting to hear on a couple of things... but time is ticking by and I have to make a decision soon otherwise I'm going to be sofa surfing for a while! But I have back-up plans, and back-ups of back-ups.... watch this space I guess!

And took some time out camping by the seaside last weekend with some friends, bbq, campfire and shootingstars :)

Time for Bed, Tiger!
My secret project I was doing back in january/february has finally been printed and bound! It's called 'Time for Bed, Tiger' and is published with Templar. I got my advance copies a couple of weeks ago and am over the moon with them :) It's written by Hannah Wilson, and comes with 'press out' characters of the toys which Little Tiger (the reader) must tuck into their individual beds(pockets) on each page... (something I've been having great fun playing with!)
It's published on 1st August, available in all good bookshops!

Me and 4 other children's book illustrators are featured and interviewed in this months issue of 'Folio - The West's Best Lifestyle Magazine'!

The article offers a glimpse into the illustrators life and 'uncovers the driving force that motivates them'. It covers questions such as 'where your inspiration comes from', 'the ups and downs of the illustrators life', and 'what it takes to build a career in illustration'.

The lovely Rachel Bright's artwork looks delightful as the cover artwork:
And my 'Mice Cup of Tea' welcome readers on the inside title page:Folio is available wide spread around Bristol and Bath in shops, restaurants, and a variety of different venues. For more information contact Folio Bristol: 0117 942 8491

Bologna and Amsterdam Adventures!

I went to the Bologna Children's Book Fair, it was really nice to have a little holiday and spend time with my agent, Mark and Amy, and some of the other Plum Pudding artists from england, italy, spain, croatia, japan.. a real multicultural group of friends!

I flew out on my own and shared my hostel room with another very talented plum pudding artist - hannah whitty - we had never met before, only emailed briefly when we found out we each wanted to go to Bologna. So we met for the first time at the Bologna hostel, and she was lovely! Instant friend! Amazing!

The flight was fun, I love seeing the mountains!
Bologna was just beautiful and sunny
felt like I was living inside an italian renaissance painting... (click on these to view bigger):Goooorgeous paintings and colours, YUM!Lots of gorgeous little markets:Lovely little shops!Me and Hannah looking koooool wearing our big sunglasses.. "Ciao"the crazy illustrators pinboard wall at the bookfair:I also had a few hours to spare inbetween connecting flights (I stopped off in Amsterdam between Bristol and Bologna). So I explored Amsterdam city for a bit! It was a very surreal experience - flying out from Bristol at 6am, and then sitting on a canal boat tour in Amsterdam at 10am! Weird! Felt a bit naughty walking out of Amsterdam airport, but no one seemed to mind.. walked straight out on to a train and in to Amsterdam! I love the whole canal/bike thing going on there. And found some gorgeous little shops and a lovely little cafe full of lovely people for lunch. Can't wait to go back there again one day.Breakfast in Bristol, lunch in Amsterdam and dinner in Bologna! The whole trip feels a bit like a dream now!
